Laser treatments
Painless, day-case laser procedures for glaucoma, secondary cataract, vitreous floaters and retinal disease.
Many eye conditions can now be treated with a laser – with no incisions, under eye-drop anaesthesia, in a matter of minutes. After a short observation you return home and to your daily activities.
We have a dedicated laser suite. Capsulotomy is performed on an Ellex laser with posterior offset and PROcap technology, which matters particularly for patients with premium lenses.
SLT – selective laser trabeculoplasty (glaucoma)
Gentle laser pulses improve the outflow of aqueous humour through the trabecular meshwork, lowering intraocular pressure. SLT can replace or complement eye drops; based on the LiGHT trial it is now recommended as first-line treatment in open-angle glaucoma. The procedure can be repeated.
Laser iridotomy
A microscopic opening in the iris restores the flow of aqueous humour and prevents acute angle closure. Used preventively in narrow angles and therapeutically in angle-closure glaucoma.
YAG capsulotomy (secondary cataract)
Clouding of the posterior capsule after cataract surgery is cleared with a YAG laser, creating an opening in the visual axis. The procedure takes a few minutes and vision usually improves within a day. Precision is crucial in patients with premium lenses, which is why we use an Ellex laser with posterior offset and PROcap technology.
Vitreolysis (floaters)
Laser fragmentation of troublesome vitreous floaters that interfere with reading and driving. Qualification includes assessment of the position and type of floaters – not every floater is suitable for vitreolysis.
Retinal laser
Photocoagulation in diabetic retinopathy, peripheral retinal degenerations and retinal tears protects against retinal detachment and limits disease progression.
Macular laser (subthreshold therapy)
Subthreshold micropulse laser used in central serous chorioretinopathy (CSR), diabetic macular oedema and oedema after retinal vein occlusion (BRVO, CRVO). It works without permanent damage to the retina.

Frequently asked questions
Do laser treatments hurt?
No. The eye is numbed with drops; you may see flashes of light or feel slight pricks. The procedure takes a few to fifteen minutes.
Can I drive after the procedure?
Because of pupil-dilating drops and temporarily reduced vision we do not recommend driving on the day of the procedure. It is best to come with a companion.
Will SLT replace my drops?
In many patients SLT allows drops to be stopped or reduced. The effect develops over several weeks and is assessed at control measurements. The decision to stop drops always rests with the doctor.
How much do laser treatments cost?
SLT and iridotomy – PLN 400; YAG capsulotomy, retinal and macular laser – PLN 500; vitreolysis – PLN 1,000 (per eye).
